Was a commission for a Frida Kahlo lover. It was also an opportunity to use a different medium (glass enamel paint) and get out of my comfort zone at the time. I did this piece as practice for the larger “Modern Willow” plate. White glass is fused on top of clear blue glass so to make a different texture while still complimenting the blue enamel paint chosen to create Kahlo’s visage. The rose crown is a common theme in Kahlo’s work and red glass chips were fused into the blue of her hair in this small sculpture.
